Why do I keep getting checkmated?

What it is
This flags moves that let the opponent force checkmate. Sometimes it's a back-rank mate, sometimes a mating attack you didn't defend in time; either way the engine shows the forced sequence.
Why it matters
Nothing costs more than getting mated. The patterns repeat — back-rank weaknesses, an exposed king after too many pawn moves, ignoring an attack to pursue your own — so recognizing your recurring mating-net weaknesses pays off fast.
How to recognize it
Give your king air before the back rank matters, and count attackers versus defenders whenever pieces mass near it. When the opponent starts an attack, answer it — a race you're losing by one tempo ends in mate.
